Our Roles In Enterprise Information Management
EIM is organized into three highly integrated and interdependent teams for the achievement of its mission and performance goals.
EIM Administrative Team
Ed Rugg, the Executive Director, and Luan Sheehan, Administrative Coordinator, provide strategic direction and operational oversight to EIM and create many of the analytic studies and interpretative highlights that draw upon EIM reports and managed information. The Executive Director also serves as KSU’s SACS/COC Accreditation Liaison and facilitator of institutional effectiveness, including the Quality Enhancement Plan’s tracking and assessment strategies. The direct reports on Ed’s administrative team include the Director of Enterprise Management & Analytics and the Director of Enterprise Information Reporting.
Enterprise Data Management & Analytics Team
Erik Bowe — Director, Enterprise Data Management and Information Architect, provides strategic leadership and operational direction to this technical team of information systems specialists who construct, support, and refine KSU’s data management, quality, warehousing, analytics, and user access. He is assisted by three technical associates with specific support responsibilities:
Paul Hearn — Business Intelligence Developer and Manager
Paul acts as the primary role in EIM in the following areas: Administration of the SAS Business Intelligence Server, creating user accounts and maintaining security for access to KSU’s VIC (Virtual Information Center), and documenting systems and processes within the Enterprise Data Management & Analytics group. He is responsible for the creation and maintenance of a Business Intelligence Competency Center. The BICC ensures that the SAS BI server, security infrastructure, systems and processes are aligned with the strategic and tactical information management objectives of EIM and the KSU community. As Business Intelligence Developer and Manager, Paul facilitates the transfer of SAS BI skills throughout the enterprise with the objective of enhancing the functionality of, and user satisfaction with EIM’s VIC. In addition, he provides assistance internally to EIM in report design, utilizing SAS Web Report Studio for productively generating reports and deploying those reports in the SAS Information Delivery Portal. His other duties include web-based programming in SQL, PL/SQL and SAS as well as maintaining legacy ASP.NET code.
Tomek Skurzak — Database Developer and Manager
Tomek serves as the primary role in Oracle database administration and application development for EIM. He is responsible for understanding of the overall architecture of the Oracle database as well as troubleshooting issues with EIM’s Oracle databases. In addition, he manages the upgrades, patches, and security for all EIM Oracle databases and acts as the primary liaison for systems administration issues with Enterprise Systems & Services (ESS). As Database Developer and Manager, Tomek is also the primary resource in working with the integration & transformation (export, transform, and load) of data from source systems utilizing SAS Data Integrator into EIM’s Oracle-based data warehouse and data marts. His other duties include performing database and web-based programming in SQL, PL/SQL, and SAS as well as maintaining the legacy Oracle Portal deployment.
Banu Solak — Metadata and Analytics Manager
This position is responsible for the overall management of the SAS Architecture and its use in metadata and analytics, specifically focusing on the SAS Metadata Server. They act as the metadata expert for KSU's data warehouse/marts and ensure consistent data definitions, constructions, extractions and analyses. In addition, they identify and recommend appropriate analytic solutions using a broad array of statistical techniques and assist others, both internally and externally to EIM, with such solutions as well as perform various quantitative analyses and data investigations. The Metadata Administrator and Analytics Analyst assists in the creation of static and dynamic web reports using Information SAS Map Studio, SAS Web Report Studio and SAS Enterprise Guide. Other responsibilities of this position include report planning, building, and implementation of security for reports.
Enterprise Information Reporting Team
Donna Hutcheson — Director of Enterprise Information Reporting, provides strategic leadership and operational direction to a technical team of data reporting specialists who facilitate KSU’s internal and external information reporting functions involving enterprise data systems. She is assisted by:
Stephanie Roper — Coordinator of Enterprise System Reports
Stephanie is responsible for developing and deploying Enterprise System Reports using the SAS architecture. She is required to verify and validate the accuracy of the ad hoc institutional reports before releasing reports and information to both on and off-campus constituencies. Stephanie also works with other areas as necessary to develop applications to meet user needs.
Carol Murch — Institutional Research Associate
Carol is responsible for providing statistical compilation and data analysis for a wide variety of standing and ad hoc institutional reporting using the SAS environment. She provides technical editing for EIM including preparing graphical presentations of the results of data analysis. In addition, Carol reviews and routes request for institutional reports to the appropriate area. She also provides office management support.
Barbara Hair — Coordinator of Survey Reporting
Barbara is responsible for coordinating and gathering the necessary information required to complete surveys and such as US News and World Report, Peterson’s Guide, College Board, and the Common Data Set. She works with other EIM staff to assist in the development and deployment of necessary enterprise-wide reporting and applications.
